A bag of bird seed

My great grandma had breast cancer a LONG time ago, back when there wasn't many options for treatment. I don't know the whole story but I do know that she did have a mastectomy. She didn't have a fancy falsie or reconstructive surgery, she had a bag of bird seed that she replaced every so often. Yep, that's right, she put a bag of bird seed in her bra to fill the empty cup.

I found out about this when I was about 7 or so. My mom was doing some grocery shopping for her and she picked her up a bag of bird seed and I couldn't figure out why my great grandma needed bird seed-she didn't even have a bird feeder. My mom then told me what it was for. I thought this was a little interesting but it was what it was and I didn't think much more about it. I do know that I never looked at a bag of bird seed the same again though.

October is Breast Cancer awareness month and I know that the month is almost over, but it doesn't mean that we stop taking care of our 'girls'. Make sure that you check them monthly and follow up with your Dr. if you find even a little something out of the ordinary.

We are saying our prayers each night for everyone affected by breast cancer, especially the special ladies in the Sunday night knitting group!
